Atheism, religion, science(s), arabic language, web, tech, music & general bloggy things
About Me:
A somewhat emotionally & musically developed rationalist. Definitively non-religious, and fascinated with understanding how and why we believe things.
Things I'm interested in: Music + Guitar! Learning the Arabic language, Atheism & Comparative Religion, History of Religion, Evolution/Biology, Philosophy, Pop Physics & Cosmology, Superman Comics & Mythology, On-line Tech and Video.
The same muscles (arectores pilorum) that enable a cat to do this:
also enable us to do this:
And in both cats and ourselves, the same stimuli cause goosebumps/hair erection: cold and fear.
But of course goosebumps aren’t of any use to us. They don’t keep us warm, nor do they make us look bigger and fearsome, like the kitteh above. They’re evolutionary leftovers, evidence of our common ancestry with other mammals.
This video is incredible. The recent discoveries talked about in this video clearly show how important neuroscience and its understanding of the brain is to our definition of and reasons for empathy, ethics and morality.
Fairly happy with this, fast enough for browsing and downloading/ streaming music and most SD video. I'm also finding that I'm getting automatically connected to various o2 participating wifi networks all over the city. So when in town it's working over wifi 90% of the time, which is a cool battery saver.
A few points to consider before spouting the "same label" "Cowel wins anyway" tripe.
Ok, so they are part of the same label. This is totally and utterly missing the point.
The point is that now a lot of people are dismayed at what reality tv has done to pop music in the last decade. It used to be in the 90's that they at least tried to pretend bands were semi-genuine and weren't manufactured. These day's they don't even bother. Hell, they even revel in it and make it a virtue. It's like they're saying "Hey, yes you guys over there, here is the most superficial watered down bland drivel you could imagine, and yes by gosh you're gonna love it"
There is no irony of a song containing the hook "fuck you I wont do what ya tell me" being used to mass mobilise people into making a statement, if they feel music is being strangled by this bullshit.
You have to pick your battles and take what you can get in the big scheme of things. I personally would have much preferred Tim Minchin's "White Wine In The Sun"
It is a beautiful original, fresh song that is indeed about Christmas and makes me tear up every time, but I will take KITNO if it demonstrates to that arrogant fake baked leather faced bastard that he doesn't own the charts.
